Pro Tip: Consistent water testing keeps your pool and spa surfaces, equipment, and swimmers protected year-round—and saves money by catching imbalances before they cause problems.
Why It Matters
Your pool or spa’s health hinges on two critical factors:
- Sanitizer Levels—Keep water safe and prevent bacteria, algae, and cloudiness
- pH Balance—Protect surfaces, equipment, and swimmers from corrosion, scaling, or irritation
Even perfectly clear water can hide problems beneath the surface. That’s why precision testing is critical for comfort, safety, and the longevity of your investment. With precise testing and correct treatments, you’ll enjoy clearer water, fewer chemical shocks, and less maintenance in the long run.

What do I need to bring for an accurate analysis?
If it’s your first time testing with us, aside from a 12 oz. sample of water in a clean container, we’ll also need your contact information to create your customer profile and details about your pool or spa, including:
- Gallonage (or dimensions and depth so we can calculate it for you)
- Filter type (sand, cartridge, or DE)
- The chemicals you currently use or plan to use
Tip: snap a photo of your existing products before visiting so we can avoid duplicate purchases and recommend compatible options.
I took my water sample in the morning but can’t bring it in until later—will it still be accurate?
Yes—as long as it’s kept at a moderate temperature. Don’t leave it in a hot car. If you’re heading to work, keep it indoors with you.
You can also drop off your sample in our after-hours water test drop box—just label the bottle clearly with your full name and address.
Do my test strips expire?
They do! Most test strips have a shelf life of about one year and often lose accuracy over the off-season. Replace your test strips at the beginning of each season for best results.
My water looks perfect, but my test readings are strange—what’s going on?
One of the most misleading (and dangerous) issues is low alkalinity and pH. These levels can make your water look crystal clear but create an acidic environment that’s unsafe for swimmers and damaging to equipment. Our ALEX® analysis identifies this quickly and helps you rebalance before problems develop.
What is the ideal pH and sanitizer level?
For most pools: pH between 7.4 and 7.6, free chlorine at 1-3 ppm (or equivalent bromine). For spas: pH 7.2-7.8, sanitizer closer to 3-5 ppm. We’ll tailor it based on your system.
Why is my pool cloudy even though I just added chlorine?
Cloudiness often means pH or alkalinity is out of range, or filter media needs maintenance. Between our years of expertise and the ALEX® test results, we will be able to determine the root cause, and we’ll recommend the right fix.
Can I bring a sample from my spa instead of my pool?
Yes—we test both pools and spas. The process is the same for either!
