  • When should I close my pool?

Most Central Illinois homeowners close their pools between September and early November, although some choose as early as August. The best time for closing is once temperatures consistently drop below 60°F. Closing too early increases the risk of algae growth, and waiting too long risks freeze damage and can incur excessive heating and chemical costs.

  • Can I choose my closing date?

Yes! We schedule closings on a first-come, first-served basis and do our best to honor your preferred week. Earlier scheduling ensures you get the timing you want before our calendar fills up.

  • Do I need to balance my water before closing?

We recommend testing and balancing your water about a week before your scheduled closing. Proper chemistry helps protect liners, filters, and surfaces through the winter months. If you’re unsure, bring a sample in for free in-store water testing before your appointment.

Opening / Closing Service Request

Terms and Conditions

A pool opening appointment with Ohana entitles from 15 to 90 minutes of time with two servicemen. They will remove your cover and any winter equipment, as well as inspect, prepare, and start up your pump and filter (as well as any accessories like a heater, automatic chlorinator, etc.) for the summer season, as long as they are able to. The opening crew will also perform light cleaning; however, a pool opening appointment is not a pool cleaning appointment. The crew will pole and net out as much debris as possible in their allotted time, and if they can see the bottom of the pool, will vacuum lightly as well. Our pool opening crew opens up to 10 pools a day during opening season, and allot no more than 90 minutes per opening. Anything more requires an additional service call for extenuating circumstances. A pool opening appointment also includes storing of winter equipment and reinstallation of any accessories that have been stored over the winter, including but not limited to: ladders, handrails, lights, diving boards, ropes and floats. Finally, the crew will add appropriate opening chemicals for the water condition. Included in the price is one case of pool shock and one bottle of algaecide, anything additional will be added to the pool opening invoice.

To prepare for your opening:

. Please remove as much water from your winter cover as possible.

. Please leave out any necessary equipment related to your pool opening and note in the special comments where it is for the crew to find.

. Please let us know any special instructions or specific places to leave/put away winter equipment ahead of time.

. Ohana is not liable for any pool or equipment damage found during pool opening due to frozen plumbing, winter weather, or improperly balanced water before closing.

To prepare for your closing:

. If you have an Above Ground Pool or In Ground Pool with a safety cover, please have water drained to the bottom of the skimmer.   You will be charged extra time if this is not completed when the service crew arrives. If you have an In Ground Pool with an Automatic Cover, please do not drain your water.

. Leave out any water bags, winter plugs, or cover hardware otherwise you will be charged for these items. Note in the special comments where they will be.

. Please let us know any special instructions or specific places to leave equipment ahead of time.

. Ohana is not liable for any cover, pool, or equipment damage due to frozen plumbing, winter weather, or improperly balanced water before closing.
